Using the DFI charger on older boards

One charger, one adapter, every gas board

The short answer

The current DFI chargers use a 4-pin connector. Older JETSURF models with carburetor engines (and the Race and Race Titanium up to 2019) use a 2-pin connector. To charge an older board with the new charger you need two things:

• A DFI charger — the 110V/220V wall charger or the 12V charger.
• The 4-pin to 2-pin reduction (part A001575) — it converts the charger's 4-pin plug to the 2-pin port on your older board. Without it, the connector simply won't fit.

Charging your older board, step by step

1. Power off and dry off. Make sure the board is off and the charging port area is clean and completely dry before connecting anything.
2. Connect the reduction to the charger. Plug the 4-pin end of the A001575 reduction into the DFI charger's output cable. It should seat firmly.
3. Connect the 2-pin end to your board. Line up the pins and plug the reduction's 2-pin connector into your board's charging port. Don't force it — if it doesn't slide in easily, check the pin alignment.
4. Plug in the charger. 110V/220V charger into a wall outlet, or the 12V charger into your vehicle or boat's 12V source.
5. Let it charge. Watch the charger's indicator light — red while charging, green when it's full — and disconnect once charging is complete.
6. Unplug in reverse order. Disconnect from the power source first, then unplug from the board, and put the board's charge lead back in its holder.

Quick tips

• Keep the reduction with your charger. It's a small part that's easy to misplace — clip it to the charger cable or keep it in the same bag.
• Check your connectors seasonally. Corrosion on charging pins is common with watercraft. A quick inspection and cleaning keeps the connection solid.
• One charger, multiple boards. If you own both a newer DFI board and an older carbureted model, one DFI charger plus the reduction covers your whole fleet.

Still using the old touchscreen charger?

Boards from 2018–2019 originally shipped with a multi-chemistry balance charger — the orange unit with the touchscreen (Bal. Charge / Charge / Storage / Discharge).
