A petrol board has a small battery that runs the electronics, pumps, and starter — it needs topping up between sessions. Everything you need is in the toolkit. The one thing to get right is grabbing the correct plug inside the board.

What's in the toolkit

Find the charge lead in the board

0:23 — Put the board flat on its stand so you can reach the charging connector.
0:50 — The charge lead sits just above the starter motor, under the oil point for the board's main bearing. Reach in, push the clip on one side, and pull the plug out.
1:07 — Confirm it's the right one: the charging circuit always has a red cable tie. It's a female plug with two pinholes — square bottom, round top — matching the charger. If you pulled the wrong plug, the charger won't fit it.

Charge

1:27 — Push the charger plug into the board's socket — it only goes one way — until it clicks.
1:39 — Plug the charger into the wall and switch the power on.
1:45 — The charger shows a red light while charging. It stays red until the board is fully charged, then turns green.
2:01 — If the battery is low, the iCU runs a balance charge based on the battery's state — it can take longer than you'd expect. That's normal; wait for green.

Finish up

2:14 — When the light is green: switch the wall socket off and unplug it.
2:18 — Unplug the charger from the board, then plug the board's charge lead back into its holder where it lived.

Tip: the red cable tie is your marker every time — if the plug in your hand doesn't have it, put it back and keep looking. Charging on the stand, board flat, gives you the clearance to reach past the starter.

Caution: don't cut the charge short because it's "taking too long" — the balance charge is protecting the battery. Only unplug once the light is solid green, and always power the wall socket off before disconnecting.
