These are the older JETSURF USA tutorials for the multi-chemistry balance charger that shipped with 2018–2019 petrol boards. For the newer sealed charger and its modes, see Charging a petrol board.
What's in the charger box
0:24 — Charger manual.
0:28 — 12 V cigarette-lighter lead.
0:32 — European mains plug lead.
0:36 — US mains plug lead.
0:45 — Attached to the charger: a red-and-black lead ending in a two-pin connector — this plugs into the board.
The charger itself has three ports: the red-and-black board connection, a 12 V input, and a mains power-plug input.
Find the charging connector
0:17 — Open the charger's latches and set the lid aside. Connect the charger to power (US plug shown).
1:23 — On 2018 and 2019 models (e.g. the 2019 Adventure DFI), the charging connector is on the left rear of the board, marked with a red zip tie.
1:48 — It sits in a bracket with a clip on the outer edge — gently pull the clip back to release the connector.
2:08 — Push the charger's pink connector onto the board connector, lining up the clip with its slot. A click means it's secure.
Charge in LiPo mode
2:28 — At the charger, go to home so you can see all the chemistry icons — LiPo is the middle one. (The boards only ever use LiPo charging.) Select LiPo → LiPo charge.
2:52 — On the settings screen: 3S = the three cells in the battery. Voltage should read 4200 (4.20 V/cell).
3:04 — Set the charge current — recommended 3 A to 6 A depending on how much time you have. Set 3 A and press Start.
3:23 — Watch voltage (charge level in the iCU) and capacity (milliamps going into the battery). The charger balances all cells so each holds the right charge to power the board's units.
4:07 — Leave it until the charger shows "End" — it clicks and beeps. Charging is then complete.
Tip: charge after every session. If you can't wait for it to reach "End", give it at least 30–45 minutes — enough to keep the iCU healthy until the next full charge.
Caution: only ever use LiPo mode — the wrong chemistry setting can damage the battery. Confirm 3S and 4200 V before pressing Start, and never charge above 6 A. Use one power source at a time (mains or 12 V). Questions: call JETSURF USA.
