Watch on YouTube ↗ · JETSURF Official — "JETSURF Tutorial: How to Ride an Electric Powered Board". Timestamps below follow the video's own counter (0:06–5:30). Petrol equivalent: First ride — prep, starts & after-care.

The riding technique matches the petrol board, but the electric board has its own pre-ride checks — an engine inspection lid and a decompression chamber that you open and check for water before every session, and a different after-ride drain.

Before the ride — 0:06

  1. 0:08 — Make sure the battery is fully charged.
  2. 0:14 — Build the stand — twist the bottom, open it from the other side — and check it holds the board properly.
  3. 0:20 — Fit the side fins and centre fin.
  4. 0:53 — Open the engine cover and unscrew the engine inspection lid. A little water is fine (condensation); a lot of water means call service immediately. Never open this lid in high humidity.
  5. 1:09 — Unscrew the decompression chamber lid. Remove any water. Check the valve on the bottom of the lid — if it's dirty, swap it for a new one.
  6. 1:37 — Reassemble everything and you're ready.

Carry it in — 1:40

Stance & start — 2:00

Starting from shallow water — 2:24

  1. 2:29On your stomach: lie on the board, arms bent, body down — best control.
  2. 2:39On your knees: one knee on, don't push hard; once you're on the throttle, bring the other knee up.
  3. 2:51Feet in: back foot in the rear strap; once you push the throttle, front foot into the front strap.

Starting from deep water — 3:07

  1. 3:09From the side: hold it as normal and, as you push the throttle, jump your body up onto the board.
  2. 3:20From the tail: lie on the board from behind and start as normal.
  3. 3:26 — On any start, accelerate a little harder to reach planing speed as soon as possible.

Standing up — 3:37

  1. 3:39 — From your knees, back foot into the strap first, then the front foot, still holding both handles.
  2. 3:48 — Keep a constant speed to stand up. The throttle cable is strong — you can pull on it for support.

After the ride — 3:57

  1. 3:59Tilt the board on its side to drain the water from the cooling system.
  2. 4:05 — Remove the battery and fit the connector covers — one inside the board, one on the battery.
  3. 4:19 — Check the engine and decompression chamber again for water.
  4. 4:33 — Spray the bearings through the lubrication pipe.
  5. 4:40 — Unscrew the two screws at the tail of the board and let the water drain out.
  6. 4:50After salt water, flush with a garden hose in order: handles → straps and pads → jet pump. Take the battery out (covers on), then use the adapter to connect the hose to the cooling system.
  7. 5:26 — Store the battery separately and let the board dry. See Cleaning an electric board after a ride.
Tip: the engine inspection lid and the decompression chamber are the electric board's early-warning system. A little condensation is normal; standing water in either — before or after a ride — means a seal is letting water in, so stop and get it checked before it reaches the motor.
Caution: only open the inspection lid somewhere dry — humid air condenses straight into the compartment. Carry by the handles, not the straps. Fit the connector covers the moment the battery is out. Store the battery separately and let the board dry before it's put away.
Keep riding
